Week 6: Styxx

This week I continued tweaking the render settings for my guitar's scene. I've still got to add toon shaders: the toon shaders in Maya are great, but the light and normal maps are meh. The lighting/textures in Arnold come out great, but I need to manually create toon shaders/outlines using the ramp method. I can't be bothered dealing with it this week, so I'm going leave it for now and move on with more important stuff!
I began concepts for my character. Here are some pages from my Art Bible:

My character is going to match her guitar, so I already had a basic colour theme. I based much of my character on Nikki Sixx from the Motley Crue, as seen above.
Here is the final concept, "Styxx":

I was adamant for Styxx to have big, statement hair to emphasise the 80's glam rock style, but it will be a challenge to rig. I might treat all the locks of hair like extra limbs. I've also learnt from past character modelling that an abundance of vertices around joints (knees, elbows) helps with deformation. I looked at some refresher tutorials on character modelling:

Modelling a Character in Maya by Ryan Kittleson from Lynda.com (accessed 16.3.18)

Maya bodybuilder CHARACTER MODELING tutorial by James Taylor.

See you next week!
