It's the start of a new year at SAE, Quantm, Melbourne and there are new, exciting projects to take on in my Bachelor of Animation. Welcome to our new lecturer (hi Angie). Some things I want to achieve this year include better organisation and consistent time management. We have more freedom with our projects this trimester; broader briefs = more creativity. Because we are studying now is the time to take on our 'passion projects' as many of us will be working for clients soon and won't have much time to do our own thing.
Basically we're required to create a hard-edge model, a 3D character and animate them. I'm going to link mine to a theme save time. I was tossing up between an Indian-inspired animal-human hybrid warrioress with a scimitar/spear or a punk rock chick with a cool electric guitar. I went with the latter. We are pitching next week so I got to work on my Art Bible immediately.
Here are some pages;

I decided to add some weaponised features to the guitar to spice things up. I also decided to make my character some sort of supernatural being to cater for the fact that some of theses designs would be dangerous to play.

As I am linking my asset to my character, I had to decide on a cartoon style and much of the characters attributes in foresight. We learnt about Maya's toon shaders in class and I want to make full use of these. I will match my character to the guitar more accurately when the time comes.

Designing guitars is fun! I am quite happy with my progress so far. See you next week.
